We think of home as a safe haven.
It’s the place where we can go after work; and simply let our hair down, put on jammie pants & that favorite, oversized, soft sweatshirt.
Home is where we go to “just chill” and relax when the pressures from the outside world cave in on us.
Home = Safe, right?
But what if I told you that everyday products that you are using in your home, on a regular basis, are actually making you sick?
Let’s take a look at the products you use from morning ’til night, and see if what you are using around your home is healthy or harmful…
- Chlorinated water: Chlorine is a known carcinogen, and is harmful to the cells and the heart. Just think about bathing or showering in it every day. While bathing in warm water, our pores open up from the warmth. Have you ever wondered how much of the chlorine is being absorbed into your skin? Asthma and other breathing issues are common problems when a person is exposed to higher levels of chlorine. [1]
- Personal care products: Soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, deodorant, toothpaste, or hair products: So many harmful chemicals are in these personal care products. Parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, toluene, lead, mercury, and asbestos (to name a few) are in regular grocery store brand goods. These harmful chemicals will build up in the body over time, and cause serious physical consequences, ranging from cancer to hormone disruptions, and more. [2]
- Household cleaners: Believe it or not, grocery store products from the cleaning aisle in the supermarket are as toxic as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day! It’s time to make a switch! [3]
- Beauty products: The makeup and other beauty products we use are chock full of harmful chemicals, and they are not regulated by the FDA. Approximately 10% of the chemicals applied on the skin are absorbed into the bloodstream. Later, these chemicals are discovered in our fat cells and breast tissue. [4]

When you do a brief inventory of the chemicals that we come into contact with all the time, it’s easy to see where we can have a toxic overload!
